Deputy Chairman, Business in the Community

Role: Deputy Chairman
Since: 2006

Business in the Community is a membership organisation that mobilises business for good. They are one of The Prince’s Charities, and they inspire, engage, support and challenge our member companies to improve their positive impact on society.

They work across four impact areas – workplace, marketplace, environment and community. Our top campaigning priorities are tackling climate change and developing the talent and skills of the existing and future workforce.

Membership of Business in the Community is an active commitment. Our members recognise the relationship between their company’s values and responsible business practice and the role this plays in creating wealth, building trust and addressing social need.

In the Community

Our members work collaboratively to address key social issues and the needs of their local communities in relation to education, employability and economic renewal.

In the Environment

They support and engage our members to reduce their carbon emissions through The Prince’s May Day Network on Climate change.

In the Marketplace

They support and engage our members in how a company innovates, sources and markets their products and services to ensure they generate revenue with integrity.

In the Workplace

They support and engage our members to speed up the introduction of responsible and inclusive employment practices and meeting the UK’s talent challenge.

Business in the Community is governed by a Board of Trustee Directors whose role is to determine the charity’s mission and purpose while guarding its ethos and values.

The Board is accountable for the Strategic Plan and ensuring all activities fall within the charitable objects, the Budget and financial performance, the terms of reference and reporting back procedures for all sub-committees. It also ensures all activities are within the law and meet public benefit requirements.
